Why does the lid of the tin sometimes bulge?
If the lid of the tin is bulging or dented, this is not a quality defect in the product, but merely a technical issue. Our Carny and GranCarno products are not only fresh, but also chilled when they are filled into the tins and then cooked during sterilisation. This cold filling process is gentle on our products.
During the sterilisation process, the contents expand due to the increased temperatures. To prevent the filled tins from bursting, they are not filled to the brim, in compliance with the net weight. The fill level in the tins may vary depending on the raw material mixtures used for each variety. This means that the larger and lighter the raw materials used in a product are, the fuller the can must be filled in order to achieve the net weight. This can lead to individual cans having a domed lid or the lids being dented due to expansion during the sterilisation process, even though the sterilisation process has been carried out optimally.
Before our products leave production, every sterilisation process is checked. This means that no cans leave production uncooked or half-cooked. This is because every cooking protocol for every batch is checked by a quality assurance employee. Only then is the product released for dispatch. Deviations in sterilisation inevitably lead to the goods being blocked. Problems during the sterilisation process are also reported immediately and automatically, thus ruling out the possibility of undetected under-sterilisation of a batch.
